Based in the UK, HESCO Bastion Ltd has been manufacturing Concertainer units since 1989. Manufactured to ISO International Standards, the Concertainer unit has been acknowledged as the most significant development in field fortification since the Second World War.
Concertainer units are the benchmark in force protection for many military organisations including the US Army, USMC, USAF, NATO and the United Nations. They have been used for protection in many countries around the world including Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo, Yemen, Sri Lanka, Jordan, UAE and Turkey.
Today HESCO offers a wide portfolio of products in addition to the Concertainer unit, always maintaining the integrity of its product design by working closely with the world's leading testing authorities.
Concertainer Units
From a simple single-level vehicle barrier or a 10km perimeter wall, Concertainer units enable the construction of rapid and efficient engineered fortification with dependable protection characteristics.
The Concertainer unit is a multi-cellular wall system manufactured from welded Alu-Zinc coated steel wire mesh and joined with vertical, helical coil joints. The units are lined with a heavy-duty non-woven polypropylene geotextile. Available in a variety of sizes, units can be easily extended and joined and filled with available material using minimal manpower and commonly available equipment. Units are given the ‘Mil’ prefix to differentiate them from their civil market counterparts.
RAID (Rapid In-theatre Deployment)
RAID is a new packaging and delivery system that reduces the logistical burden of supporting force protection missions on expeditionary operations, such as the construction of FOBs and Patrol Bases.
RAID utilises a specially designed and engineered container to provide significant increases in the quantity of Concertainer units that can be transported in a 20’ container footprint. Deployment can be carried out using a wide range of trucks, earthmoving equipment, logistic vehicles or combat vehicles. A vehicle is simply driven forward at walking pace, pulling the container along behind. The Concertainer unit is pulled from the back of the RAID container.
In less than 10 minutes, and with just three men, a 333m long Concertainer wall, 2.21m high, can be deployed, ready for filling and providing instant cover from view. During trials, a RAID unit being pulled by an armoured fighting vehicle deployed the 333m of wall in under one minute.
Corners, curves and gaps in the wall can be easily formed. The unit can be simply split by the removal of two joining pins, which are positioned every five cells.
EPW-1TM (Enhanced Protective Wall)
The EPW-1 unit is an enhanced design of the standard Concertainer unit, providing the same high standard of proven protection combined with easier strip-out, disposal or redeployment. The EPW-1 unit is available in a height of 2.1m and a length of 33m.
HABTM (HESCO Accommodation Bunker)
The HAB provides protected accommodation, for harsh environments where protection against IDF weapons is paramount.
The HESCO Accommodation Bunker (HAB) houses up to 8 personnel, providing each with a personal space measuring 2m x 2m.
HAB has sidewalls of specifically developed Concertainer units and a lightweight aluminium roof. HAB has been extensively tested against the effects of IDF weapons.
HLBRTM (HESCO Lightweight Bunker Roof)
The HESCO Lightweight Bunker Roof (HLBR), is a rapid and easily erectable lightweight roof specifically designed to protect against IDF weapons. The roof can be built on almost any walls capable of taking the load that the roof will impose upon it.
HLBR has a number of uses such as the roof for COLPRO, for living accommodation, or overhead cover for ammunition and explosive stacks.
EOPSTM (Extended Overhead Protection) Bunker
EOPS provides a roof structure with defined overhead protection for larger facilities. EOPS is built around existing, ISO container-buildings such as expandable container systems, or basic sea container units.
An EOPS installation forms, as a minimum, a triple wide structure. EOPS is modular, so there is no limit to the size of the area that can be protected.
Personnel & Material Bunker Sets
These bunker sets have been developed to utilise forty and twenty foot ISO containers. Walls are constructed using specifically adapted Concertainer units to give a protective wall thickness of in excess of 1m, with 0.6m of overhead cover.
Guard Post
The components of this set provide a small protective emplacement with 0.6m walls and 0.45m of overhead cover. Embrasure (firing/observation point) forms are included in the set as are roof joists and roofing material.
HRSFTM (HESCO Re-deployable Security Fence)
The HRSF unit provides a rapidly erectable anti-climb fence that requires no special tools or training, no ‘digging in’ of fence posts and can be re-deployed with limited effort. Available in three heights; 2.4m, 3.1m and 3.6m, the HRSF unit has an anti-climb front face and will withstand light vehicle attack.
